Cambodia Gambling Dens
Aug 23rd, 2026 by Jordan

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that highlights numerous amenities on top of the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
